    CAREGIVER TRAINING REGULATIONS & FACTS

    Utah’s Increasing PCA Demand

    Did you know?

Utah enforces stringent regulations to ensure that the state’s individuals receive care from qualified and trustworthy caregivers and that the agencies operate according to safety standards. Therefore, agencies and caregivers need to adapt to these regulations to maintain compliance and competence.

Here’s a quick breakdown to help you on your journey:

    Licensure

All home care agencies must be licensed by the state. Also, agency-employed PCAs must complete an orientation on 3 broad topics before working with consumers.

    Training Supervision

A licensed nurse or a certified nursing aide with at least two years of relevant experience must supervise PCAs.

    Competency Evaluation

Home care agencies must document PCA’s competency and conduct on-site evaluations every 6 months. Aides must also undergo retraining when changing employers.

    Exemptions

Training for personal care aides directly employed by consumers under Medicaid programs or private-pay arrangements is not regulated by the state.
